On our travels through breath-taking Istrian scenery, Vodnjan was the place we knew we shouldn’t miss. We decided to visit Chiavalon, a world-renowned and awarded olive oil producer.
Two brothers, Tedi and Sandi led by immense passion and true love for tradition, today cultivate 7,500 olive trees, mostly autochthonous sorts, alongside over 3,000 trees from contracted cultivators.
Buža, Bianchera (Istrian Bjelica), Carbonazza (Crnica), Moražola, and Rožinjola (Rosulja) can be, within an hour or two turned into premium quality extra virgin olive oil of intense flavor and aroma that we tasted and very much enjoyed.
Highly recommended!
The most advanced olive oil production complex in Croatia, Chiavalon, consisting of an oil mill, tasting room, and a shop, is so tastefully designed, superbly equipped, and modernized, while also respecting the authenticity and family heritage.
We were greeted by one of the owners, Tedi, and indulged in the experience among the welcoming olive trees. Our guided tour included olive oil tasting and learning about the oil quality differentiation.
Afterward, we relaxed on the terrace and enjoyed Istrian delicacies perfected with Chiavalon oils and Istrian Malvasia.
Before leaving, a Chiavalon shop visit is a must. Alongside world-recognized and awarded premium quality, these oils have such creative, top-notch labels, that they make a perfect gift!
