Why Šibenik?

Why visit Šibenik? The oldest Croatian coastal town has a very rich historical and cultural heritage. Thanks to its position on the Adriatic coast, Šibenik has always been a good place to live. In the 16th century, it was the largest Dalmatian city by population.

Filled with history and famous people

Inside the picturesque medieval town, surrounded by 4 fortresses, you will find beautifully preserved old churches and charming, narrow cobbled streets filled with numerous staircases. Šibenik is one of only 5 cities in the world that has two UNESCO monuments. Cathedral of St. Jacob, entirely made of stone, a unique monument of this type.

Did you know that Šibenik is the first city in the world with public lighting? The city was the first to introduce public lighting on the alternating current of Nikola Tesla back in 1895, which was supplied from the hydroelectric power plant Krka – Jaruga, which was put into operation only two days after the one at Niagara Falls. The construction of such a hydroelectric power plant was very advanced during that time.

Also known as the city of famous people, from Faust Vrančić who invented the parachute to the famous basketball player Dražen Petrović, actor Goran Višnjić and piano virtuoso Maksim Mrvica.

The town of Šibenik is a true natural phenomenon

In the immediate vicinity, there are two national parks – Kornati National Park and Krka National Park. The 75 km long canyon of the Krka river created a park whose powerful waterfalls and beautiful island Visovac must not miss. Waterfall Skradinski Buk is one of the most unusual and the most beautiful landscapes in a natural pool with 17 waterfalls and one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Europe. The water in the park is a mixture of sweet and salty, so you will find both sea and freshwater fish here.

Filled with adrenaline and nature

Šibenik is a real paradise for boaters. The Šibenik archipelago consists of 249 picturesque islands, of which only 6 are permanently inhabited. One of the most beautiful nautical routes, 26 NM long, connects two national parks: Kornati and Krk. In summer you can choose from swimming, diving, sailing or water skiing. Adrenaline lovers can spice up their vacation with an adventure on the Zip Line across the canyon of the river Čikola.

If you visit the Sibenik off-season, do not worry. Autumn and spring weather is the most perfect time for a bike ride around the islands, and the beautiful Krka National Park.

Filled with joy and music

Šibenik is also known as the city of festivals. In the summer months, two fortresses – Sv. Michael Barone and – turn into a place filled with numerous musical and cultural events.

In June enjoy the International Children’s Festival, and in July the Salsa Beach Splash Festival, Supertoon animated film, as well as to the OFF Jazz & Blues Festival. At the end of August, the Festival of Dalmatian Chanson is held on the most beautiful renaissance square of Krešimir’s town.

Šibenik is a city of music and is known for the long tradition of the “Klapa” choir, which was placed on the list of intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO. From the beginning of June to the second half of September you can enjoy the traditional evenings of Klapa choirs.

The Šibenik Riviera offers a handful of top attractions and a great offer of luxury villas and hotels. Šibenik and its hinterland offer a rich eno-gastronomic offer. Try unique local delicacies such as smoked ham and bacon and goat cheese, and experience the explosion of flavors in some of the world’s best restaurants awarded Michelin stars. Lovers of wine to enjoy the offer of indigenous varieties of wine if the instructions to nearby wine cellars in Skradin or Miljevci.
